Welcome & thank you for visiting me here...

This end of year 2024 I am so happy to be showcasing work at Llantarnum Grange, Cwmbran's centre for contemporary Art & Craft. If you get a chance to visit there are exhibitions to inspire as well as a shop full crafts to tempt you..

My showcase work at Llantarnum Grange are 2 pages from the Open Book installation, with the last 14 birds of the flock that once swelled at 76. Thank you to all that have bought a bird for yourself or another, I have been so heartened by the stories we have swapped and the conversations and delights we have shared.

My recent work has moved into the recording studios to make a music album. It is difficult to make a choice between one art form or another, but keeping creative is a key for my happiness.
The new song collection is an extension of Open Book, the songs that make the whole feeling, exploring love & grief, blessings & transitions, circles & lines.
It has been a joy to work with other musicians, create musical landscapes, feelings through sound and poems. I am blessed to have the magical input of Paul Johnston (co-producer) & Marion Fleetwood, (multi-talented, composer and writer who's violins, cello & innate sensibility and skill, have moved me to tears frequently) as we explore and record at Rhythm Studios.
What started as a single album became a double album, and as we reach the final mixes I will release new videos in celebration & the album in it's entirety, which will include the illustrated booklet of artworks created for Open Book.

Thank you, it is a blessing to be creating. It is a gift, mostly to ourselves, but if we are really lucky, we can share it with others.

Song Story-a project exploring narrative through audio/visual, ceramics & textile print
OUR COURSES

Song Story: making, connecting, healing.

Open Book: the beginning of the work

Crafting the story narrative was an exploration of falling notes, words, and feelings that became the song ‘Open Book’. This song is core to these works, it is a metaphor for grief: the half-finished book is open, pages ahead lay blank.

These works are the indexical outcomes of the processes representing my creative practice journey through song craft, stitch, and ceramics. The Open Book narrative is woven into audio/visual song story with moving drawn images, book sculpture, mixed media panels and ceramic sculpture, all tracing my healing path through making and connecting as the world becomes shrink wrapped to one defining incalculable moment of unexpected loss.

The hope of making connections with myself and others runs through the core of my practice. I love sharing stories, processes, and outcomes, and all the joy that manifests through these practices. There is a simple but beautiful quote which powerfully conveys this often emotionally charged state: ‘Making is connecting’ (Gauntlett, 2011). As human beings we all have an ability to invent and create, be it in varying degrees, and this creativity could be seen as one of the most intrinsic aspects of being human.

The song Open Book became the core of my recent body of work created whilst studying for my Masters in Contemporary Craft at HCA.
